Neil Young was born in 1945 in Toronto, Ontario. He is a singer-songwriter and began his solo career in 1960, just before moving to California, and founded the band Buffalo Springfield, and later joined Crosby, stills and Nash. He has released 34 studio albums in over 40 years.

In 2001, he released a single dedicated to the 9/11 victims called "Lets roll". This song was also dedicated to the actions of the crew, particularly flight 93. In 2004, he began using bio diesel on his tour bus for the Greendale tour.
In 2005, he suffered a brain aneurysm. He had minor surgery, but two days after he collapsed from femoral artery bleeding. This was the artery surgeons had used to perform surgery on the aneurysm. A few months later, he was well and appeared at one of the Live 8 concerts. Young has written songs criticizing former U.S. President George W. Bush and the War on Terror. In his latest project, he revealed the production of a lincvolt hybrid-engine. The car, however, had a fault in its plug in charging system and was destroyed in the fire it triggered.
Young is still winning awards, and he was one of the original founders of Farm Aid, a benefit concert to raise money for family farmers and save them from foreclosure. He also holds benefit concerts for the Bridge school which raises aids to help children with disabilities, particularly because both of his sons have cerebral palsy and himself and his daughter has epilepsy. Young has received two Honorary Doctorates from Universities in Ontario and San Francisco. In 2009, he was appointed to the Order of Canada.
